Don’t be afraid to ask for a referral — here’s how I approach it

I used to feel awkward reaching out cold. What’s worked: a short, specific message — who I am, the exact role, and one honest reason I’m a fit — instead of a generic “know of any openings?”. Most people are more willing to help than it feels like from the outside. Happy to look over anyone’s outreach message if it’d help.

Appreciate this — I've been sending fairly generic messages and barely hearing back. Do you keep the "one honest reason I'm a fit" specific to the role, or more about the company overall?
