# Seeking Advice: Best Way to Approach Cloud and Technology Job Applications
I’m seeing a lot of cloud and technology opportunities across LinkedIn, Naukri and other job platforms, but I’m finding it difficult to determine the best approach.
Should I focus on applying to as many relevant jobs as possible, or spend more time targeting a smaller number of roles?
For example, I'm considering a combination of:
* **Direct applications** through job portals
* **Employee referrals**
* **Reaching out to recruiters**
* **Connecting with hiring managers**
* **Networking with former colleagues**
* **Applying directly through company career pages**
* **Building visibility through LinkedIn content**
### What approach actually works?
For cloud and technology roles, I'm particularly interested in understanding how others prioritize their efforts.
Would you recommend something like:
**1. Find the right role**
Check whether the responsibilities genuinely match your experience rather than applying based only on the job title.
**2. Customize the resume**
Highlight the cloud platforms, technologies, certifications and business outcomes most relevant to the role.
**3. Look for an internal connection**
Before applying, check whether someone in your network works at the company.
**4. Contact the recruiter or hiring manager**
A short, personalized message may be more effective than sending a generic “I'm interested in this position” message.
**5. Apply and follow up**
Don't rely entirely on the application portal. If there is a legitimate opportunity to connect with the hiring team, follow up professionally.
### One thing I'm particularly curious about
For senior cloud, cybersecurity, architecture and technology leadership roles, does the traditional **“apply and wait”** approach still work?
Or is networking and getting a referral now almost essential?
I'd also be interested in hearing from people who have recently found cloud/technology roles:
* Which channel produced the most interviews?
* How many applications did you typically submit?
* Did referrals make a significant difference?
* How much did you customize your resume?
* Did recruiters approach you, or did you approach them?
* Which job portals worked best for you?
**If you've recently landed a cloud or technology role, what did your successful job-search process actually look like?**
Please share the approach that worked for you—and anything you would avoid if you were starting the search again.
