Job Description

Kestrel Industrial Works is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to design sheet-metal and precision-machined components for industrial equipment clients in the packaging and material-handling sectors. You will create detailed 3D models and manufacturing-ready drawings in SolidWorks, applying GD&T principles consistently so parts assemble correctly the first time on the shop floor. A core part of the role is working hand-in-hand with production teams to resolve design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly issues before tooling is committed, since a mistake caught on the drawing board is far cheaper than one caught after a die is cut. You will maintain accurate bills of materials as designs evolve, support prototype builds on the shop floor when needed, and iterate designs based on real testing and field feedback rather than treating a first draft as final. Expect regular design reviews with senior engineers, cross-functional coordination with procurement on long-lead components, and occasional travel to supplier facilities to resolve fit and tolerance issues in person. Strong fundamentals in mechanical design theory combined with genuine hands-on SolidWorks fluency, not just classroom exposure, are required for this role.
